I'm working on an illustrated story about a critter from my own weird Otherwhere.
I'm both writing and illustrating this thing. It will be one of many original illustrated stories from several dozen talented contributors in the book Encounters with the Imaginary, Vol. 3,coming later this year from Boneshaker Press. The world, and the critter, are my own.
I'm drawing on the world of my "Other Side of the Wood" sketchbook of several years back. The Owl Harpy isn't featured in the sketchbook - I sketched it in watercolor last year during June-Fae - but I recognized immediately it as a both a resident of the edge of the Wood and a character with potential. It has legs, as they say. Also wings.
I'll show you art WIPs soon, as the the illustrations progress, but I've got the story basically written and, dear ones, I have already learned that writing a story is easy compared to editing that story down to fit into the assigned word count.
More stories from the Other Side of Wood have been written, and a self-published collection is planned. If you've read "The Other Side of the Wood," and want to know more, you should visit me at Patreon. (Also, thank you for liking the thing!)
